Shin Jongung

Hi, I'm Shin Jongung. I'm a Product Engineer who looks for where users get stuck and cares about making services people keep using.

In the Air Force, I led feature definition and UX design for AiRWARDS 3.0, an AI service on the defense network with 1,000+ daily users. At Samsung Electronics' DS AX/PI Center, I moved an internal open-call process that ran on email and Excel into a single web service.

Right now I'm building and running Talkbeam on my own, a service that turns talks into live captions and translations.

Experience

Software Development Intern · In-house open call and training management system

  • In a 5-week individual project, combined the open-call work that was received by official memo and email and collected in Excel for evaluation into one web service, from application through evaluation to result confirmation
  • Defined application questions with a JSON schema and evaluation stages with order and type settings, so a new call can be opened without code changes
  • Provided summaries and per-question reference scores through the in-house RAGaaS, while only human scores count toward averages and confirmation
  • After in-house deployment, the responsible department is improving it on that basis and using it in real work

React · FastAPI · MySQL · In-house RAGaaS

AI Systems Development Specialist (military service) · Frontend for internal AI services and team development environment improvements · AiRWARDS 3.0 chat development

  • Frontend development for internal AI services, including real-time AI translation, an AI-based National Assembly work management system, runway crack detection and the Air Force Data Hub
  • Proposed building new systems in React instead of Vue 2, which relied on archived libraries and few developers knew, laying the groundwork for 10+ new React systems after AiRWARDS 3.0
  • Gathered the common components each project had copied into a custom shadcn registry on the internal network, building up about 50 shared components
  • Fixed errors so Continue, Roo Code and OpenCode run on internal lightweight models in a closed network with no access to external AI tools, and wrote shared guidelines

React · TypeScript · Vite

Apr 2024 – Aug 2024

Freelance Developer · Loop Harmony, Integrated monitoring platform for disaster and industrial sites

  • On a 3-person outsourcing team that rebuilt a disaster and industrial site monitoring platform in React, built a dashboard combining the map, WebRTC calls, chat and CCTV
  • Added recording and MinIO storage and retrieval APIs to the existing Kurento server
  • Fixed video showing black only on iOS through H.264 codec negotiation and autoplay settings

React · TypeScript · Node.js · Socket.IO · WebRTC · Kurento · MinIO

Projects

Jun 2026 – Present

Live captions and translation service · personal project

  • Developed and ran it alone, from planning through the operator and audience screens, server, deployment and on-site caption output at events
  • Fixed translation responses arriving out of order by issuing a sequence when a sentence is confirmed and outputting and saving only in that order
  • Wrote confirmed records to a local spool first and deleted only those committed to the DB successfully, so records remain after a save failure or a restart
  • Output Chinese and Japanese captions at 2026 BHST, and provided Korean translation for 8 hours a day over 4 days without incident at a joint workshop of Malaysian and Korean companies

Next.js · TypeScript · Fastify · PostgreSQL · Deepgram

Oct 2024 – May 2026

Conversational AI service on the defense network · @Republic of Korea Air Force Headquarters, AI Systems Development Team

  • Owned chat as one of 2 frontend developers on an 8-person product team for a defense-network AI service with 1,000+ DAU and 5,000+ MAU; led the initial 3.0 feature definition, UX and state management design, and built the whole chat screen
  • Traced scroll and input lag in long conversations on 4GB-class RAM PCs to a bottleneck: every SSE token re-parsed the whole response and re-rendered finished code blocks and tables
  • Batched tokens, froze finished blocks, and added virtual scrolling and a lighter highlighter, cutting main-thread work from about 800ms to 80ms (same code- and table-heavy response, 4GB-class RAM PC, measured in Chrome DevTools)

React · TypeScript · Vite · Tailwind CSS · TanStack Query · shadcn/ui

Air Force application score calculator · personal project

  • Planned, built and ran on my own a service that replaces calculating application scores by hand and comparing them with past cutoffs; MAU 10,000+ and about 28,000 page views
  • Moved recruitment stage, major, certificate and bonus-point criteria into JSON config, so guideline changes need no code changes
  • Used Clarity heatmaps, session replays and user interviews to find and fix buttons hard to reach with a thumb and dialogs hard to close

Next.js · TypeScript · Zustand · Microsoft Clarity · GA4

Jan 2026 – Jul 2026

RAG chatbot for study materials and events · @Korea Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC)

  • Handled planning through the RAG pipeline and on-site operation for a chatbot that answers questions about study materials, meetings and events from the materials; it answered 1,000 and 2,000+ questions at two events
  • Branched material search by question intent, and checked collected real questions for answers without grounding
  • Moved the web MVP to a KakaoTalk chatbot after feedback that it was a hassle to open

Jun 2023 – Nov 2023

Enterprise AI chat for checking sensitive information before sending · @SW Maestro 14th cohort · GitHub

  • Built an enterprise AI chat PoC that highlights sensitive information found by a detection model in the input box, so users check and edit it before it goes to an external LLM
  • As team lead, coordinated schedules, mentoring and meetings across BE, FE and AI to complete the PoC; the team signed an MOU with the security company Securelink

Next.js · React · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS · FastAPI

Jul 2022 – Nov 2022

Self photo booth discovery and review app · @DND 7th cohort · GitHub

  • On a 6-person team, built Naver Map-based photo booth search, synced marker and list selection, and step-by-step review writing
  • Completed the React Native app and released it on the App Store

React Native · TypeScript · React Query · CodePush
